Xiaozao - Terms of Use
Effective date: 2 September 2026 Who runs this app: Nelson Liew, Singapore Contact: support@xiaozaosg.com
By using Xiaozao you agree to these terms. Please read Section 2 and Section 6 in particular - they say what this app is, and what it is not.
Five things decide how this works. Section 2 and Section 6 are the ones people get wrong.
Xiaozao introduces people. It does not sell food.
We do not make, handle, store, transport or inspect anything listed here, and we are not a party to the sale. The contract is between the buyer and the maker.
Never pay before you collect
You look at the food, then you pay the maker directly. No genuine maker needs money in advance. Messages asking for it are flagged automatically.
A badge means one narrow thing
That customer service saw a real certificate and checked it is current. It is not an inspection, not a guarantee, and not our endorsement.
Silence is not a yes
A listing that declared nothing never appears under a dietary filter, and the page says plainly that the maker did not answer.
Posting is free, always
Spotlight buys reach and is always labelled. It never buys a badge, a star, or a better place in its band.
1. What Xiaozao is
Xiaozao is a place where people in Singapore who make food at home can list what they have made, and people nearby can find them. Listings are sorted by how far the maker is from you.
2. What Xiaozao is not - read this one
Xiaozao introduces people. It does not sell food.
We do not make, handle, store, package, transport, inspect, taste or test any food listed on this app. We are not a party to the sale. We never take the money for food - the buyer pays the maker directly at handover.
The contract for any food is between the buyer and the maker. Xiaozao is not that contract, is not a party to it, and is not the seller, the supplier, the importer or the distributor of anything sold through the app.
3. One account, one person
- You need a Singapore mobile number, and each number gets one account.
- You must be 18 or older.
- Do not share your account, and tell us if someone else gets into it.
- Do not open a new account to get around a suspension or a ban.
4. If you make and sell
You are the food business. That means:
- You are responsible for complying with Singapore Food Agency requirements for a home-based food business, and with any other law that applies to you.
- The five declarations you tick before your first listing must be true, and must stay true. If your situation changes, stop selling until it is true again.
- Describe your food accurately: what is in it, when it was made, how it should be kept, and how long it lasts.
- Dietary and allergen declarations must be truthful. If you say a listing has no pork and no lard, that must be a fact you know, not a guess. See Section 6.
- Handovers happen in a public place. Never give out your unit number.
- Price your own food. We do not set prices and we do not take a cut.
5. If you buy
- Check the food before you pay. That is the whole design: you meet, you look, then you pay.
- Never pay before handover. No genuine maker on this app needs money in advance. If someone asks, report it - the app flags these messages automatically, but a report reaches a person.
- Tell the maker about allergies yourself. Do not rely only on a listing.
- Turn up when you said you would, or cancel early.
- Use your own judgement. Home kitchens are not licensed premises, and this app never claims otherwise.
6. What our badges do and do not mean
This section matters more than any other, so it is written plainly.
The hygiene badge (FSC). When customer service verifies a maker's food safety certificate, we show a badge. That badge means one thing only: we have seen a certificate and checked that it is current. It is not an inspection of their kitchen, it is not a food safety guarantee, and it is not an endorsement by Xiaozao.
The halal certificate. The word "Halal" appears only where customer service has verified an actual certificate. It means the same narrow thing: we have seen the document.
A maker's own declarations. Everything else a maker says about their food - no pork, no lard, halal-certified suppliers, vegetarian - is the maker's statement, not ours. We do not verify it and we do not endorse it. The app labels it as the maker's own words. If it matters to you, ask the maker before you collect.
No declaration at all is not a declaration. If a maker has answered nothing, the app says so. Do not read silence as a yes.
Ratings and counts are calculated from real collections and real reviews. No user can write them, including the maker they describe. They are a record of what happened, not a promise about what will happen next.
7. Spotlight
- Posting a listing is free, always.
- A Spotlight is paid visibility: it puts a listing in front of more people, for longer, over a wider area. It buys reach. It does not buy a better position in a fixed list, and it never buys a badge, a rating or a verification.
- A promoted listing is always labelled as promoted.
- A Spotlight may be cancelled for a refund before it starts. Once it has started it is not refundable.
- If a Spotlight runs for materially less than the time you bought, we credit you automatically. Refunds are given as credit toward future Spotlights, not as cash.
- We may refuse or withdraw a Spotlight from a listing that breaks these terms, and we will refund it if we do.
8. What you may not do
- Sell anything that is not food you made yourself at home.
- Sell ready-to-eat raw seafood, or anything else the declarations exclude.
- Lie about ingredients, allergens, or when the food was made.
- Claim your food is halal without a certificate we have verified.
- Ask anyone to pay before handover.
- Post someone else's photos, or content you do not have the right to post.
- Harass, threaten or abuse anyone, on the board or in chat.
- Impersonate anyone, including a maker, a customer, or Xiaozao itself.
- Scrape, copy or resell the app's content, or try to break its security.
9. Content you post
You keep ownership of your photos, listings, reviews and posts.
By posting them you give Xiaozao a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, resize and thumbnail that content, so the app can show it. This licence lasts as long as your content is on the app, and ends when it comes down - except for reviews, which survive account deletion in anonymised form (see the Privacy Policy).
You confirm the content is yours to post. If someone else's photo appears on the app, write to support@xiaozaosg.com and we will take it down.
10. Moderation, suspension and bans
- Anyone can report a listing, a message, a post or an account.
- Customer service reviews reports. Upholding one records a strike against the account.
- Three upheld reports close the account permanently, remove its listings and posts, and block the mobile number from being used again.
- We can remove content or suspend an account without notice where there is a safety risk.
- If you think we got it wrong, write to support@xiaozaosg.com.
11. Leaving
You can delete your account from the You tab. It takes 7 days, you can cancel during those 7 days, and afterwards your number is free to use again. A banned number stays blocked. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
12. Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
Subject to that:
- Xiaozao is provided as it is. We do not promise the app will always be available, or that every listing is accurate.
- We are not liable for the quality, safety, legality or accuracy of any food sold through the app, or for anything that happens at a handover. Those are between the buyer and the maker.
- We are not liable for what users say to each other, or post on the board.
- Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim. For most users that is zero, because posting is free.
13. Disputes between users
If a handover goes wrong, settle it with the other person first - that is the relationship the sale created. Report anything unsafe or dishonest to us and we will act on it under Section 10. We can remove accounts, but we cannot recover your money, because we never held it.
14. Changes
We may change these terms. Significant changes will be announced in the app, and the date at the top will change. Continuing to use Xiaozao after that means you accept the new version.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction.
